Emo church to hold coffeehouse fundraiser

Knox United Church in Emo is holding its second-annual coffeehouse fundraiser, entitled “Coffee, Tea and Melody,” on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
“It’s an evening of music and fellowship,” noted Dave Ogilvie, one of the organizers. “The music is provided by members of the congregation—there’s choirs, duets, and possibly solos.”
He indicated there also will be a silent auction, with items provided by the congregation and residents in the community.
“They range all the way from hand crafts [and] baking to sand and gravel provided by a local company,” Ogilvie added.
Between the musical performances, he stressed people are free to wander around and place bids on the different items. As well, coffee, tea, various kinds of loaves, cheese, and fruit will be served.
“The church is transformed into a coffeehouse with small tables and an intimate atmosphere,” Ogilvie explained. “And we’ll have a Christmas theme again because we’re so close to Christmas.”
He noted the church had tried a similar event prior to last year, but it was more elaborate and took a lot of work.
“This way, the people who are setting this up can also take part and sing,” he remarked, adding with a smaller congregation, they have to keep things simple.
Ogilvie said the money raised will go toward projects in the church and a local project in the community, which is yet to be named.
“It was done last year and was highly successful,” he enthused. “And it includes not just people from the congregation, but last year people came from across the district.
“It’s an evening of fellowship, not just fundraising.
“We’ll welcome anyone who wants to take the time to come out and have some fun,” he stressed.
Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for those six-12. Those five and under are free.
