The Emo Centennial Choir is ready to get everyone into the holiday spirit.
It will present “Oh! What a Wonderful Child!”—a Christmas celebration of songs and readings—this Monday (Dec. 9) at 7:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo.
“We’re back after a four-year hiatus,” said director Renée Martin-Brown, adding they have a new accompanist in Yvonne Friesen.
“She has stepped up to play for us and I have really enjoyed working with her,” Martin-Brown noted.
“We quickly came together as a team and have a similar vision for the choir.”
Martin-Brown said the choir has been rehearsing weekly since the end of September.
“We’ve been working for 10 weeks, preparing a variety of songs,” she explained, noting their repertoire includes some traditional carols, a gospel number, and few contemporary Christian pieces.
The featured soloists will be Tania Cox and Emma Dykstra.
Katelyn Shortreed, a local vocalist who is home for the holidays from her third year of music at the University of Western Ontario, will be a special musical guest.
A local female trio named “Grace Tree” also will perform Monday.
“We would love to see everyone there,” Martin-Brown enthused.
“Come out and give us your support, and we hope to get you into the Christmas spirit.”
The concert should run about an hour in length and will be followed by a time of fellowship.
A free-will offering will be taken, which will be used to buy a brick for the Emo Spray Park.
Any remaining proceeds will be split between the Emo & District Hospital Auxiliary and the Emo food bank.
