Games, entertainment, and fireworks are scheduled as Emo will celebrate Canada Day on Monday, July 2 given similar parties are slated in Barwick on June 30 and Fort Frances on July 1.
“It’ll be great. I can’t believe what they’ve put together in the last week,” noted Emo Reeve Russ Fortier.
Emo’s Canada Day celebrations will kick off with a truck convoy parade from the newly-renovated health centre to the Lions’ Park at 2:30 p.m., where O Canada will be performed by local singer Emma Wilson.
At 3 p.m., horseshoes will begin in the parking lot between Tompkins’ Hardware and the CIBC, and continue throughout the afternoon.
A municipal challenge match also will be held between Emo Reeve Fortier and Chapple Reeve Cecil Wilson.
A tennis tournament will begin at 4 p.m. for older children, with registration from 3-4 p.m.
Throughout the afternoon, cotton candy and freezies will be sold from Emo’s Little House, and children will be able to enjoy the Bounc’en Good Times rides on Front Street for $2 a ride.
There will be a watermelon, fruit juice, and granola bar stand donated by the Emo Medical Associates, and a food booth featuring hamburgers and hotdogs.
Local personalities also will be dunk tank targets throughout the afternoon, and games such as tug-of-war, gunny sack races, and face-painting will be available for the younger children.
At 3:30 p.m. the Kloggers will dance on stage in the park, with an evening of games to follow, including cribbage, minnow racing, and a horse race board game, sponsored by the Emo Lions Club.
In the evening, the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring local performances in the park. Musicians are welcome to register by calling Colleen Vannechenko at 482-2171 or 482-1811.
Karaoke also will be set up on Front Street, and cake and ice cream supplied by the town.
To round out the evening, fireworks will light up the waterfront at dusk.
“By having it on [July 2], it gives a real opportunity for people in the district to go to all the festivities,” noted Reeve Fortier.
