Everyone is adjusting to being back to school again after the summer break, with staff at Donald Young School in Emo looking forward to working with parents and their children throughout the year.
The canteen resumed its service this past Monday (Sept. 16). Take note that DYS has made some changes to provide a more nutritious lunch program (menus are being sent home to look over).
A hot lunch will be served at the first break (10:40-11:25 a.m.), with the second one scheduled for 1:05-1:50 p.m.
DYS is encouraging students who normally go home for lunch to do so during the first break so they can be involved in extra-curricular activities at the school during the second one.
Microwaves are available for student use during both breaks.
Parents are reminded that DYS once again is collecting Campbell’s product labels, including soup, Goldfish crackers, and V8 juices (the bar code must be on the label).
It takes a lot of labels to be redeemed for merchandise so please keep sending them in. DYS has collected about 6,000 labels so far.
In other news, DYS is holding an open house and book fair next Monday (Sept. 23) from 7-8 p.m. Ms. Tolen and Mrs. Meyers will be presenting the DYS profile in the gym at 7 p.m., which was assembled and presented to school board trustees last year.
Everyone is welcome.
Following the profile, Ms. Tolen will be doing a Grade 7/8 parent presentation in the classroom at 7:20 p.m. Ms. Lee and Mrs. Orchard then will present to Grade 4-6 parents at 7:40.
Parents also are welcome to visit the other classrooms.
