DYS to present ‘Seussical the Musical’

Press Release

Donald Young School in Emo will be presenting the musical, “Seussical,” tonight through Friday (Feb. 25-27) at 7 p.m.
Tickets cost $6 each, with children under 12 admitted free.
“Seussical” combines many of the best-loved characters created by children’s author Theodore Geisel, known to the world as Dr. Seuss.
The humorous musical incorporates bits and pieces of many Dr. Seuss classics. You and your family will be amused by the antics of the Cat in the Hat, and will be delighted with the big heart and respectful compassion of Horton the Elephant.
Of course, no trip to the world of Dr. Seuss would be complete without One Fish, Two Fish and a trip to the Circus McGerkus.
The musical is sure to be a hit with people of all ages.
All of the themes in this musical production are reflected in the Rainy River District School Board’s “Character In Action” program’s monthly attributes. Lessons on peace, on fostering imagination, and on self-esteem also are presented.
The subject matter is simple enough to be understood by children—and universal enough to touch the hearts of most adults.
Original music was composed by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens.
The DYS students, under the direction of Katherine Williams, have been rehearsing for weeks and are very excited. Williams is the conductor of the Borderland Community Orchestra and teaches violin.
The school and board are grateful for her willingness to volunteer her time, talent, and energy to encourage and inspire students to perform at their full potential.
