“The love for reading is the greatest educational gift children can get,” says Mary Leonhardt, author of “99 ways to get your kids to love reading and 100 books they’ll love.”
Donald Young School students had a chance to visit the annual Scholastic book fair last Wednesday and Thursday in the gym.
DYS librarian Marie-Ann de Groot had hoped students and their families would stop by and view all the different material there was on display and she was pleased with the turnout
“It has been great,” she noted.
Children had taken home a pamphlet listing book fair highlights, which gave parents an idea of what to look for. “Reading for fun can transform a child’s life,” reasoned de Groot.
This book fair creates an enjoyable opportunity for the whole family to get excited about books, reading, and other learning options, she stressed.
In other news, Allison Loney topped the DYS speech contest, and now will be participating at the district level tomorrow at St. Michael’s School in Fort Frances.
We wish her the best of luck.
