Donald Young School in Emo has opted not to get involved with a science fair this year.
“As a staff, they decided everyone deserved a break from the scientific process this year,” noted DYS principal Lucinda Meyers.
But there certainly are other activities arranged there throughout the rest of January and February.
A “Just Say No” presentation will be held next Monday (Jan. 26) for students in Grades 4-6 while the annual “Hoops for Heart” is slated next Wednesday (Jan. 28) for those in Grades 6-8.
The always-popular Scholastic Book Fair runs Feb. 11-12 at DYS, followed by a Grade 7/8 basketball tournament on Feb. 19.
Finally, the much-anticipated presentation of the “Wizard of Oz” goes Feb. 26-27.
Rehearsals for stage production are well underway. Students are very enthusiastic about learning their lines and are putting forth a great effort.
A special thanks to all the volunteers who are helping out with the costumes and props.
DYS students and their parents also are reminded that the local Alzheimer Society is staging a “Family Pennies for Your Thoughts” weigh-in this Sunday (Jan. 25) from noon-4 p.m. at Cloverleaf ShopEasy.
Donate your pennies to this project and the family that weighs in the most is the winner. The prize is being donated by Cloverleaf ShopEasy.
