U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the International Falls port of entry detained a man Tuesday who has drug-trafficking convictions in Canada and who had been living illegally in the United States since 2000.
The 46-year-old man, who is a citizen of Honduras, previously was deported from the U.S. in 1996 and again from Canada in 1999.
Records checks revealed the man had two convictions in Vancouver, B.C. for narcotics trafficking.
The man told CBP officers he had been living in Kenosha, Wis. and was trying to enter Canada to find work.
He will be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Enforcement and Removal Operations.
“CBP officers stand vigilant in enforcing the law and protecting this nation from all threats,” said Area Port of Pembina director Jason Schmelz.
“The apprehension of this man highlights the hard work CBP officers do every day to keep our nation safe,” he added.
