During Road Safety Week, held in conjunction with the Victoria Day holiday weekend, a total of 1,400 vehicles were stopped at OPP roadside checkpoints across Rainy River District.
Two drivers were arrested and charged with impaired driving offences while four more drivers were issued 12-hour license suspensions.
Police charged more than 40 drivers with speeding offences, and laid more than 30 charges under various provincial statutes and the Criminal Code.
The OPP Marine Unit also was busy over the long weekend, checking more than 170 vessels. The operators of three vessels were charged under the Liquor Licence Act.
The OPP would like to remind the public that RIDE programs and marine enforcement will continue throughout the summer months so plan ahead if you are attending an event where alcohol is being served.
The OPP also would like to remind residents that cyclists under 18 years of age are required by law to wear an approved bicycle helmet when riding a bike on a roadway.
Further, parents can be charged if they knowingly allow their children to ride without a bicycle helmet.
