La Vallee held its annual Christmas party Sunday afternoon with a large crowd of people of all ages attending.
“The community of Devlin/La Vallee has some of the best food in the district,” said local MPP and NDP leader Howard Howard, who attended the event with his parents.
Without a doubt, the highlight of the evening was when Liz Donaldson was awarded “Senior of the Year” for La Vallee, although she noted that this award could have been presented to many a senior.
I, along with many others on hand, felt Liz was the perfect person for this award.
Freeda Carmody read a short article outlining Liz’s community work with many organizations such as T.O.P.S. as well as the centennial committee she is working very diligently with at the present time.
Also mentioned were her years working for local schools. But perhaps the most important quality Liz had put first in her life is her role as wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Liz was quite overwhelmed when her name was called to accept this award. She did remark with a chuckle that “for once in her life she was speechless.”
Dereck McLean, a local O.P.P. officer who works in the schools with the D.A.R.E. program, also was given recognition at the annual Christmas party.
He wasn’t on hand, but thanks was shown to him for his part in helping young children become better people.

Although this is an extremely busy time of the year, I don’t have a lot of news to report on. Please feel free to call me and pass along any newsworthy events.
As well, welcome home to all the college and university students. May you enjoy the time spent with family and friends—and get filled up with good home cooking.

Robin’s 2¢:
An elderly woman passed away last month. Having never married, she requested no male pallbearers.
In her handwritten instructions for her memorial service, she wrote, “They wouldn’t take me out while I was alive. I don’t want them to take me out when I’m dead.”
