DON MARQUIS profile

Born and raised in Rainy River, I went to St. Michael’s Catholic School in Rainy River and later graduated from Rainy River High School.
I am married to Rachel and I now have three adult children and two grandchildren.
I recently retired from Canadian National Railroads after 36 years. In 2002, I was a recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence (“Operation Life Saver”).
I am a former trustee of the separate school board from 1987-97. In that time, we worked hard to obtain a gymnasium for Our Lady of the Way School in Stratton.
The separate school board mission statement is to provide excellence in Catholic education to our students. Based on Gospel values and in partnership with home, church, and community, we develop responsible, confident, life-long learners who contribute positively to society.
The board’s vision is to be the system of choice, instilling Gospel values and education in students to be responsible citizens and life-long learners with a positive vision.
The board’s values are:
•providing excellence in education and a love of learning through quality programs based on Catholic values and provincial directives in a safe and positive environment;
•building a community of home, school, and church that lives the values of the love of God, self, and others, the respect for life, service, integrity, fairness, responsibility, tolerance, compassion, forgiveness, and caring;
•governing the organization in a responsible, efficient, and effective manner consistent with its priorities and goals; and
•responding to internal and external influences in a manner reflecting our Catholic beliefs.
If elected, I will work hard to achieve this.
