On Saturday around 4:10 p.m., Thunder Bay OPP officers responded to a report of a drowning at Cummins Lake in Jacques Township.
Ernest Rumpel, 76, of Thunder Bay went out in his canoe around 4 p.m. with his German Shepherd dog.
It is believed the dog rocked the canoe at one point, capsizing it.
Rumpel fell out of the canoe.
He was not wearing his lifejacket at the time of the incident.
Rumpel was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced deceased.
