Two fires were reported in the Northwest Region yesterday afternoon, including the first one in Fort Frances District in about two weeks.
Fort Frances Fire #11 was located about 20 km east of Atikokan.
FireRanger crews fought it with hand tools, pumps, and hose.
It was declare “out” at 0.1 hectares in size.
The second fire was burning in matted grass in the community of Mishkeegogamang (Sioux Lookout District) and listed at 0.1 ha in size.
The local fire department and FireRanger crews responded.
Kenora District continues to monitor the Lake of the Woods prescribed burn.
There are no other active fires in the region.
The forest fire hazard is “low” for most of the region, with the exception of areas in the far north, which have a “moderate” to “high” hazard.
