Devlin home gutted by fire on Monday

Robin McCormick

A house on Cemetery Road here in Devlin was completely gutted by fire Monday morning.
The owner, Steve Galusha, had left for work in the wee hours of the morning so the house was vacant at the time of the blaze.
Neighbour Marvin Hatch noticed intense smoke around 8:30 a.m. and realized it was too thick to be from normal conditions.
Upon arriving at the scene, Hatch saw flames engulfing the home.
He then called 9-1-1, and Devlin/La Vallee volunteer firefighters were on site within a short time. But it was obvious from the beginning that the flames were too intense to save the home.
The Alberton fire department also was called for back-up, who helped bring the blaze under control.
Galusha would like to thank all the firefighters and neighbours, especially Marvin Hatch for his quick thinking.
