Press Release
The Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts is working together with community partners to improve the safety of people with dementia and providing peace of mind for family members.
Three out of five people with dementia will go missing at some point? If not found within 24 hours, half of them will have a serious injury or die.
It could be you or someone you know.
That’s why the local Alzheimer Society, in partnership with the Alzheimer Society of Ontario and Ontario Seniors’ Secretariat, is promoting the ground-breaking “Finding Your Way” program—a multicultural safety awareness initiative for people living with dementia who go missing or become lost.
Nearly 200,000 Ontarians have dementia today and anyone with dementia can go missing without warning, warned Lynn Moffatt, executive director of the local Alzheimer Society.
“Having a plan in place and knowing how to protect the individual is a must for caregivers,” she noted.
“We are holding a community meeting to bring everyone together and brainstorm, ask questions, and see how we, as a community of the northwest, can work together on this initiative,” Moffatt added.
The local Alzheimer Society would like to hear from you on how they can play a partnership role in improving the lives of persons living with dementia and their care partners for individuals wandering and those that may go missing.
You are invited to participate in this workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous (lunch is provided).
Those who are interested are asked to register by Nov. 19 by visiting www.alzheimer.ca/krr
