‘Cuts for Cancer’ being held in honour of Visser

During Emo’s Spring Fever Days on April 14-16, The Hair and Body Care Shoppe once again will be doing its “Cuts for Cancer.” This year will be a tribute to Sam Visser, who recently passed away due to the cancer.
The Visser family has requested that half of the money raised be donated to Connie Cunningham of Emo and that the other half be donated to the chemo unit in Fort Frances.
This year, Bonnie Bender, Mike Williams, and Brenda Visser Elias will be shaving their heads in order to support this cause.
If anyone would like to support this fundraising effort for cancer, you can do so by making a pledge at the CIBC Bank in Emo, Visser Auto, The Hair and Body Care Shoppe, or through Brenda Elias. Or contact any of the people involved and they would be happy to take your pledge.
Brenda also will be donating her hair to one of the organizations that makes wigs for cancer patients.
Meanwhile, a new event during Emo Spring Fever Days this year will be the “Poker Walk About.” Each person who wants to take part is asked to purchase a card for $2 each, then you are asked to stop at participating business while on your walk and get a stamp from each place.
Then at the end of the walk, you will be given a playing card for each stamp you received. The person who has the best poker hand then will win the pot.
You do not have to purchase the card in order to take part in the walk, only if you want a chance at winning the pot.
The starting line will be located at Tompkins Hardware, and you may purchase your card there.
The Emo rec council will be selling chili and buns, hotdogs, coffee, and hot chocolate downtown during Spring Fever Days, so be sure to drop by while you are out shopping for lunch or just to warm up.
The G.E.M.S. girls’ club also will be holding its annual pancake breakfast again this year. This is a very popular event and well worth the cost of $4 for adults, $3 for students, and $1 for toddlers.
Breakfast will be served at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo from 8-10:30 a.m. This is a great way to start your day!
All Emo business will have draw boxes during Emo Spring Fever Days, so stop in at the different locations to check out the deals and also sign up to win some Emo gift certificates.
First place is $500, and then there are two prizes of $250 each. The draw will be made Saturday, April 16 at 4 p.m. at The Hair and Body Care Shoppe.
As usual, there will be a buzz at the Emo Arena during Spring Fever Days with Nestor Falls Marine being set up inside.
While you’re looking at boats and thinking about summer fishing, be sure to check out the book sale the Emo Public Library will have going on up there.
The EPL will be selling hotdogs, cookbooks, and T-shirts during the book sale, too. This also would be a great time for anyone interested in becoming a member of the Friends of the Library to sign up.
