Another school year has come to an end and elementary schools across the district took time late last month to recognize the accomplishments of their top students.
Crossroads School in Devlin invested two days for the occasion—and there was a lot of hardware handed out.
On June 23, the Grade 8 graduation awards were presented to the top students in various categories. They included:
•Highest Academic Award—Shannon Darby
•Award of Excellence—Shannon Darby
•Core French Award—Shannon Darby
•Burriss Women’s Institute Award (most outstanding student)—Shannon Darby
•Valedictorian Award—Shannon Darby
•Citizenship Award—Jeremy Caul
•Community Service Award—Kristina Caul and Jeremy Caul
•Computer Proficiency Award—Kristina Caul
•Dedication Award—Matthew Beck
•Award of Merit—Matthew Beacham, Michael Badiuk, Matthew Badiuk, and Ryan Witherspoon
At the school’s year-end awards, the following students were recognized:
•Intermediate Speech Contest—Shannon Darby
•Athletic Award—Kristina Caul and Garnet Cornell
•Henry Miller Conservation Award—Jeff Johnston’s Grade 7/8 class
•Fundraising Award—Lauren Halowaty
•Seven Generations Quest 2003—Jon Rogowsky, Josh Rogowsky, Candice Collett, Jesse Schaum, Scott Williams, and Justine Chiefson
•Native Language Award—Josh Rogowsky
•Principal’s Award for Student Leadership—Kelsey McLean
Meanwhile, the annual literacy awards were handed out June 24. The students recognized for showing the greatest improvement over the year were Matt McQuaker (Grade 6), Kaiya Sutherland (Grade 5), and Kayla Benjamin (Grade 4)
The award for the most improved students in directed reading assessment went to Angel Nixon (Grade 3), Megan Poirier (Grade 2), and Eddy Selman (Grade 1).
The awards for best all-round students in language arts went to Adam Esslink (Grade 6), Kim Lafleur (Grade 5), Heather French (Grade 4), Samantha Stahn (Grade 3), Kennedy Kellar (Grade 2), and J.J. Fiset (Grade 1).
