Tuesday morning, March 30, 2021 the Gymnasium at the Rainy River High School was bustling with activity as staff from the NWHU and local volunteers hustled to get things set up for the first mass Covid 19 vaccination clinic for residents 75 and over.
A grid of chairs was appropriately spaced across the gym as administering sites with another line of post registration chairs were set along one wall. As well as the registration desk to report to upon arrival, there was a post vaccination desk for those to check out at upon leaving.
“We will be administering doses of the Moderna Covid 19 vaccine in Rainy River over the next two days,” says Jon Begg, Communications Director for the NWHU. To accommodate usage of any doses that registrants fail to show up for a scheduled appointment the staff maintains an emergency list of persons wanting a jab that can show up on short notice. No doses will be wasted.
Appointments for a shot are “by invitation only” there will be no “walk-ups”. Advertising to explain registering for a shot has been extensive on social media and through health care providers. Families wishing to help register older family members or friends that may not be computer savvy are urged to do so. If you cannot navigate the computer please use the phone. The process is quick easy and painless. Take it from someone who has trouble even hitting the right keys.

As well as Healthcare professionals, a members of the West Rainy River District Lions Club were on hand to help co-ordinate crowd control and parking. This was truly a massively organized event.
“All hands are on deck for this,” states Begg.
The next vaccination clinic days for Rainy River are scheduled for April 16 and 17.
