Congratulations to Niel and Sophie VanDrunen, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Emo Legion on June 21.
Festivities began with a family dinner at the Legion, followed by dancing to music by Bill, Glenn, and Wayne. It all had been kept as a surprise for the couple, and the dance was attended by a very large crowd.
Friends came from Atikokan, Bergland, and Baudette—and all report a wonderful time.

I’ve just returned from Okotoks, Alta. after spending a week with my daughter, Bonnie and Richard Bradley, and Mackenzie.
Okotoks is about 12 minutes south of Calgary (population 12,000) and there’s a lot of housing development going on. In fact, the prediction is that it soon will spread into Calgary, which is growing so fast the population there is now one million.
Since I travelled west from Thunder Bay, on my return, my granddaughter, Susan Abey, and son, Dalton, drove me home and stayed a few days to visit family, including Bob and Nancy Fretter as well as Louise Erb, returning on Monday.
We managed to catch enough fish for a meal on Lake of the Woods at Bergland.
