Last Saturday afternoon (Feb. 17), relatives and friends gathered at the Emo Legion to celebrate the 55th wedding anniversary of longtime residents John (Jim) and Marcine James.
The hall was decorated with two potted plants, at the guest table and registration area, and each table had a lit candle as a centrepiece.
The couple don’t want too much publicity but here is a short history of their life together here.
John and Marcine, nee Hefner, met in Manila after the end of WW II, where he had been a prisoner of war for four years and she was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
They were married in Winnipeg on Feb. 16, 1946.
After they moved to Emo in December, 1950, John bought Emo Feed and worked there until 1964, when he started to work at the local LCBO outlet until his retirement.
Meanwhile, Marcine kept busy working as a physiotherapist and in her many community projects.
The couple was blessed with four children. They also have 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
