Corner Closet opens in Emo

For Colleen Vennechenko and Marg Bender, today has been 18 months in the making.
The pair opened their doors to the public for the first time at the Corner Closet, the new ladies fashion store in Emo.
Why women’s fashion?
“We know what women’s tastes are,” Vennechenko said matter-of-factly.
“We want to do just one thing at a time and expand our knowledge,” Bender added. “We’re learning.”
A ribbon-cutting is slated for Friday at 10 a.m. in conjunction with “Holly Daze” in Emo although the grand-opening sale will run through Saturday.
“It’s looking good,” Vennechenko remarked. “I’ve got about six more items to go up.”
The store is located in the same building as the new laundromat and arcade the pair have been operating for about the last month. And it covers the whole gambit on women’s wear–from jackets, jeans, and formal wear to lingerie.
“We hope to have a little bit of casual, a little bit of dress, and so on,” Bender said, not to mention accessories like scarves, belts, and small jewellery items.
“It’s a little bit of everything, and there will be a little bit more in the spring selection,” she added.
“Our spring line is geared towards younger girls, 13 and up,” Vennechenko noted. “Right now, we have a lot of stuff for the business woman, 25 to 30-year-olds. And we have a lot of nice Christmas outfits.”
Vennechenko said they will be offering discounts of at least 25 percent on their Nyguard fashions, plus have in-store draw prizes for gift certificates.
Together, the pair sees plenty of room for their store in Emo.
“Dealing with the public before [as bankers], we know who the community is and what is needed,” Vennechenko said. “We can’t go anywhere without people asking us when we’re opening.”
“Everybody likes to have a selection–I know I do,” Bender remarked. “I don’t like to shop in just one store or go to the city all the time.
“You can never have enough stores for women,” she laughed.
Even though the Corner Closet just opened, Bender and Vennechenko both are looking to expanding the store somehow in the next year or two. Just what they’ll expand into is the only question.
“If things go well, we may expand to family [wear] and we may decide not to,” Bender said. “We may go into more lines of women’s wear. It will depend on us and how we’re enjoying it.”
