The Emo Fair is looking for the district’s finest vocalists—be they of the Ozzy Osbourne or Shania Twain variety.
“The ‘Grandstand Jam’ will be going on Saturday, Aug. 17 during the Emo Fair,” said organizer Candy Greengrass. “It’s a singing contest for kids ages eight-19.
“‘Thinking of Pinky’ will be the back-up band,” she added.
A big-name band also is slated to perform at the end of the night (its identity will be announced shortly).
Registration forms for “Grandstand Jam” are available at the CIBC in Emo, Sight and Sound in Fort Frances, and KGB Sports in Rainy River.
Interested contestants also can contact Greengrass (483-1252) or Renée Martin (482-3055).
In related news, six contestants are vying to be Emo Fair Queen this year—a title currently held by Kelly Nielson.
“That’s the number we received by [the] deadline,” said pageant organizer Joyce Meyers.
Fair queen responsibilities will include attending a number of community events, like the Emo Walleye Classic, and taking part in various parades throughout the year.
Crowds also can expect a parade, little cars for children, and stock car racing again at the 102nd-annual fall fair.
“We’ll have the stock cars on Friday night and little cars on Saturday afternoon,” fair board member Gary Judson noted.
