(FORT FRANCES, ON) -The Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are reminding members of the public to call 911 in emergency situations or the Provincial Communication Center (PCC) at 1-888-310-1122. By calling the PCC, your concern will be addressed by an officer in a timely and efficient manner.
There has been a noticeable increase in members of the public leaving messages on the answering machine at detachments that would be better addressed if the PCC had been called. The detachment phone number is intended for matters such as questions about criminal record checks and making appointments to attend the detachment for administrative purposes.
The OPP has online reporting on their website at www.opp.ca. An online report can be filed for the following calls for service:
- Lost/missing property
- Stolen license plates or validation stickers
- Theft from a vehicle
- Mischief to a vehicle
- Mischief (damage to property other than a vehicle, including graffiti)
- Theft
- Driving Complaints

COCAINE SEIZURE
Local resident arrested for trafficking cocaine
(KENORA, ON) – On February 18, 2021 members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Organized Crime and Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) conducted a traffic stop on a white pickup on Hwy 17 at Reddit Road in the city of Kenora. Investigation at the traffic stop lead to grounds to arrest the driver for possession of a controlled substance.
A search incident to arrest was conducted and officers located and seized evidence of trafficking a controlled substance.
Officers seized: A large amount of cocaine with an approximate street value of $46,030; $480 in cash; White pickup as proceeds of crime.
A 29 year old Kenora resident was charged with: Possession of a controlled substance – Schedule I for the purpose of Trafficking; Possession of property obtained by Crime under $5000.
The accused was released and has a future court date in Kenora Provincial Court to answer to these charges. Police cannot release the name of the accused / or court date as the investigation is currently ongoing.

COLLISION
(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – Members of the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an emergency call for assistance on a snowmobile trail east of Pelican Falls Road on the night of February 17, 2021.
Sioux Lookout OPP, Lac Seul Police Service, and Northwest EMS coordinated in locating a 55 year-old male and transporting him to hospital with severe injuries, after his snowmobile collided with a tree. The rescue effort took a total of two hours in temperatures as low as -27 degrees Celsius.
OPP officers would like to thank their community partners for their assistance in responding to this emergency. Officers would also like to remind snowmobile operators to drive within their abilities, and to always carry appropriate emergency supplies, survival kits, and communications equipment with them out on the trails.
