Cobras go on a tear

The Emo Cobras (PeeWees) enjoyed a fruitful week in Emo-Devlin-Barwick Minor Hockey Association action, winning all of their games.
They started with a 6-1 victory over the Emo Esso girls’ team, sparked by Kurtis Hill’s four-goal effort. Ryan McDowall and Matt Mutz rounded out the scoring, with James Saunders adding four assists.
Taylor Meyers, assisted by Emily Lougheed, netted the lone goal for Emo Esso.
Two days later, the Cobras burned the Firemen (Fort Frances) by an 8-3 count. Hill once again had four goals to lead the way, with Devon Ball (two), Saunders, and Jonny French also scoring.
N. Windigo (two) and M. Marr replied for the Firemen.
The following day, Fort Frances Atom ‘AA’ Mustangs tried their luck against the mighty Cobras but fared no better, coming out on the short end of a 5-1 score.
French, Hill, and Devon Ball (two) helped the Cobras jump out to an early 4-0 lead. Saunders netted the Cobras’s final goal while Ryan Windigo replied for the Mustangs.
The Emo Cowboys also had luck riding on their shoulders, winning both their contests. A short-handed Legion team (Fort Frances) was their first victim, winning 5-0.
Tyson Romyn, Devin Allison, Travis Strachan, Travis Wolframe, and Ryan Mutz all scored in that one.
Then against the visiting Atikokan Voyageurs on Saturday, the Cowboys tallied four first-period goals en route to a 7-3 victory.
After Allison, Mutz, Romyn, and Strachan had given the Cowboys the lead, Mutz and Romyn each added their second of the game in the second period.
Jan Lougheed rounded out the scoring for Emo.
Atikokan scored twice in the second period and once more in the third (their goal scorers were not listed).
In action from earlier this month, the Emo Hawks welcomed International Falls “Gold” to a friendly game and the visitors skated away with a 8-2 victory.
The Falls led 5-1 after two periods, then netted three more goals in the third to ice the victory.
Joel Skirten led the “Gold” with a hat trick while Justin Jensen scored twice. Wes Gunnerson, Kyle Hell, and Jon Little also tallied for the visitors. DJ Mosbeck got both Hawks’ goals.
In a return match, the Falls “Gold” team encountered another Emo squad (their name was not listed) and this time earned a shutout.
Gunnerson had two in that one, with singles going to TJ Wickstrom, Hell, and Jensen.
In Atom action, Emo Esso battled the visiting MEC (Fort Frances) to a 1-1 draw. Wes Anderson had put MEC in front in the first period but Tyler Friesen netted the equalizer in the third.
In PeeWee action, the Emo Cobras hosted the Thunderbolts, which ended in a 2-2 tie. Cobras had period leads 1-0 and 2-1, but could not hold on for the victory as Ryan Kaemingh tallied his second of the game to knot the score.
James Saunders hit the twine twice for Cobras.
Against the Emo PeeWee girls, the Cobras jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scored four more times in the second, and then added a pair of third-period markers en route to a 9-0 win.
Meanwhile, the Emo Predators skated to a 4-1 win over the visiting Oddfellows (Fort Frances) on goals by Michael Badiuk, Tyler Huntley, Ashe Woolsey, and Matt Beacham.
The Oddfellows’ snipers were not listed.
In other action, the Emo Thunderbolts dumping the visiting Green’s Predators (Fort Frances) by a 6-1 count.
Jordan Meyers and Ryan Kaemingh each netted hat tricks for Emo while Matthew Goldamer scored Green’s lone tally (assisted by Wade Perusse).
In girls’ PeeWee/Bantam action, the Falls girls’ 14U skated home with a 9-3 win over Emo, scoring five times in the third period to ice the victory.
Amanda Bolstad led the Falls’ attack with four goals while Sophie Bolstad added two. Stephi Hagen, Bianca Johnson, and Ashton Shold all added singles.
Lauren Krukoski (two) and Nicole Beadle replied for Emo.
