Chute received inaugural Wendt Award

Audrey H. Chute, superintendent’s secretary at Voyageurs National Park, was honoured with the first-annual Judy Wendt Award back on Oct. 4.
Voyageurs established the award to honour Wendt’s legacy of service. Judy M. Wendt, a 20-year employee of Voyageurs National Park, died unexpectedly on May 30, 2004.
As the contracting officer at the park, Wendt exemplified professionalism, served as a mentor to many, and was respected by all.
The award symbolizes and honours, on an annual basis, a permanent staff member who reflects Wendt’s dedication and is recognized for their outstanding contribution to the support and improvement of Voyageurs National Park.
Nominated by her colleagues, Chute’s selection was based on her high standard of professional competency and co-operation, exemplary work ethic, and her ability to interact with a variety of people, including park staff, visitors, government officials, community leaders, etc.
She is a valued member of the park team.
One of her co-workers said it best by stating: “Her dedication, cheerfulness, sense of humor, and ever present ‘can-do’ attitude is a beacon of guidance that none of us could function without.”
A memorial park bench also is under construction by a member of the park staff. Upon completion, it will be presented to the community of Littlefork, Mn. (Wendt’s birthplace) as a lasting memory in her honour.
The bench will be placed in a notable site for public use, and a dedication ceremony will be conducted at that time.
Park staff congratulates Chute, and looks forward to recognizing other deserving members in the years to come.
