Christmas ice candles available for purchase

Robin McCormick

For those wishing to purchase Christmas ice candles for our local services, they are available at the municipal office.
Maxine Hayes has been busy making them and has several ready.
Call her at 274-6049 or the municipal office at 486-3452.
Maxine will deliver candles to Burriss if she receives orders early enough.
Money raised last year helped to purchase garbage cans for the local cemeteries.

La Vallee’s annual community Christmas potluck and fun day was held Sunday.
About 100 people enjoyed delicious food while Norbert Bragg provided horse-drawn rides. Games also were enjoyed.
One of the highlights of this event is the honouring of the “Senior Citizen of the Year.” Carol McLean was the well-deserved winner this year.
Unfortunately, I do not have much information on this presentation, but hopefully I will have more about it next week.
One thing I do know about Carol is she always is serving, baking, cooking, and smiling at community events that take place at the Devlin Hall.
She is a very hard worker.
Carol has raised a large family, been the right hand to her husband, Bill, and just been one of the reasons our community is a great place to live.
Congratulations, Carol. You deserve it!

Ken Mason arrived home from hospital in Winnipeg. He also is getting his strength back and recovering.

I was pleased to see Mickey McKinnon out and about last week. She is doing much better after months of hospitalization and suffer.
Continued recovery to you, Mickey, from your community.

Lois Shine is in hospital in Emo battling pneumonia.
We pass along get-well wishes, and hope to see her out and about soon!

Our community also would like to extend sympathy to George and Sharon Roulston and family on the passing of George’s mother on Nov. 25 in southern Ontario.
Many of you will remember the Roulstons being a part of our community several years ago.

Irwin Hughes turned the big “6-0” last week. Happy birthday to you, Irwin!

Cards played at the Emo Legion last week saw the Dysons take the high while the low went to Joan Buttazoni and Rudy Meyers.
Adelia Guba won the draw.

The next Emo Legion 50/50 draw will be held Dec. 18.

A reminder that Crossroads School’s Christmas concert is set for Thursday, Dec. 17 starting at 7 p.m.
It promises to be a fun-filled evening.
Hats off to the teachers who diligently work with the students every year to entertain us!

Robin’s 2¢:
A few quotes from my girlfriends:
•I serve three meals a day . . . frozen, microwave, and take-out.
•Housework won’t kill you but why take the chance?
•My house was clean last week. Sorry you missed it.
•Life is made of choices: remove your shoes or scrub the floor.
•Money is like manure—it’s no good unless you spread it around.
