Christmas bustle heating up locally

The bustle of Christmas is upon us—and our rural area is no exception.
The annual “Holly Daze” festivities take place in Emo this Friday and Saturday (Dec. 5-6).
Activities begin Friday with a Santa Claus parade a 6 p.m., followed by fireworks. Hot chocolate and cookies also will be provided by the Emo rec council.
Then at 7:30 p.m., the Borderland Community Orchestra will provide a Christmas concert at Donald Young School.
On Saturday, the always popular “Crafts Galore” will run at the Emo Legion from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. A light lunch of soup and sandwiches also will be served for $5.
As well, the St. Patrick’s C.W.L. will hold its annual Christmas tea on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. in the church hall. There also will be baking, religious articles, mini-draws, and much more.
Admission is $3, and everyone is welcome.
“Holly Daze” will conclude Saturday with the draw for $500 in Emo gift certificates taking place at 4 p.m. at Norlunds.

A reminder the draw for the remaining spots in the Emo Walleye Classic next May will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Tompkins Hardware.

After you’ve enjoyed “Holly Daze,” Devlin/La Vallee families are encouraged to attend the township’s 15th-annual community Christmas party and fun day on Sunday (Dec. 7) starting at 2 p.m. at the Devlin Hall.
Be sure to bring your cards and board games to enjoy the afternoon with your neighbours.
There also will be a kiddies’ corner, and sleigh rides will take place (weather permitting).
And don’t forget to bring your favourite dish for the potluck supper beginning at 5 p.m. Rumour has it Santa Clause also will make an appearance.

A reminder that the 2009 cash calendars are still available at the municipal office and from any fire department volunteer. They cost $30 each, and make great Christmas gifts.

Crossroads School’s Christmas concert is slated for Tuesday, Dec. 16 starting at 7 p.m.

Local curlers Mike Badiuk and Jenna Enge, who curl for Thunder Bay teams while pursuing their post-secondary education there, both earned provincial berths after their respective rinks captured top spot at the regional playdowns in Kakabeka Falls over the weekend.

Glenna Rea certaily will have a little nicer Christmas after winning $1,000 on Friday in a draw held by the La Verendrye General Hospital Auxiliary.

The 50/50 draw held at the Emo Legion on Nov. 19 was won by Cliff Hagen, who pocketed $547.50.
Adelia Guba sold the winning ticket.

The winner of the November gas draw at Dev-Lynne’s was Gerri Benjamin, who took hom a tool kit.

This Sunday (Dec. 7) is the date for the annual seniors’ Christmas supper at the Emo Legion at 5:30 p.m.
Admission is $6. Take-out order will be available starting at 4:30 p.m.

A little boy accidentally wandered into the ladies’ dressing room at a fancy swimming resort, and the entire room of women began shrieking and scrambling to cover themselves with towels.
“What’s the matter?” the kid asked. “Never seen a little boy before?”
