A 25-year-old Fort Frances man is in custody facing a number of charges in connection with a serious assault that occurred on June 11, 2020 in the city’s south side, according to Thunder Bay Police Services
A James Street resident had been discovered with serious injuries by Uniform Patrol officers following up on information that the man had been the victim of an assault. The quick work by these officers in locating the victim resulted in the man being transported to hospital by Superior North EMS for treatment of life threatening injuries.
This assault became a major case for the TBPS Major Crimes Unit. Their investigation led to the identification of a suspect.
A warrant was issued for the accused’s arrest.
The arrest came early this morning when TBPS Uniform Patrol Officers responded to a weapons call at a residence in the 100 block of May Street South at 2:23 a.m. There had been a report of two individuals in the hallway who were armed with knives. Upon further investigation, a male was located in an apartment at this location who was subsequently identified as the person wanted by the TBPS in connection with the June 11 James Street assault.
The man has been charged with:
• Attempted Murder
• Aggravated Assault
• Obstructing a Peace Officer
The accused was remanded into custody with his next court date set for today.
The victim is recovering from his injuries. The Thunder Bay Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance.
