Chapple supports fight against phone rates

At its regular monthly meeting Oct. 9, Chapple council supported a letter being written by the Rainy River Future Development Corp. expressing concerns to the CRTC about the proposed increase in Bell Canada rates.
Council approved appointing Mark Hyatt as Chapple’s representative on the district committee overseeing disaster relief funding from the province for the damage caused by the July 31 storms.
A $1,000 donation to the Emo Public Library also was approved.
But council quickly defeated a motion to approve $4,586.25 as Chapple’s share of the remand centre consultant’s apportionment.
Council also viewed a video on the Great Rendezvous Conference to be held Nov. 8-9, and the survey forms distributed.
Present for the meeting were Reeve Cecil Wilson, Couns. Peter VanHeyst, William Clink, Rick Neilson, and Rilla Race, and Clerk Treasurer Doris Dyson.
Lloyd Wheatley also was on hand for the meeting.
