Chapple seeking accessibility input

Chapple is looking for input from residents as part of its annual review of the township’s accessibility plan.
Under the Disability Act, municipalities must have their facilities accessible to taxpayers, explained CAO and clerk/treasurer Peggy Johnson.
As such, Chapple has an accessibility plan on how this will be accomplished.
“Within that policy, it says that we will contact our community in an attempt to identify any barriers that people may have accessing facilities,” Johnson noted.
“It could be something as simple as a door knob is too high, or something that we wouldn’t realize but somebody else may have come across.”
Past outcomes of the review included such things as ensuring the Chapple re centre was wheelchair accessible.
This year, Johnson said Chapple council already has identified one area where improvement is needed—at St. Paul’s Heritage Church.
“It’s an old church in the community, and we just realized that there wasn’t access across the ditch,” she noted.
“So in the spring, our roads superintendant is going to be putting a culvert pipe and making an entrance to the church and then a ramp or whatever’s needed if somebody ever wanted to use this church.”
Those with input can contact the municipal office at 487-2354.
