The April meeting of Chapple council was held at the municipal office with all council members present.
Council discussed the proposed official plan and zoning amendments that would be required to be reviewed to ensure the protection of Chapple’s well fields.
Henry Kornelsen, representing the Chapple Volunteer Fire Department, reported to council on the new pumper truck. He had been hoping to bring the vehicle back from Toronto, but was unable to stay until the final safety was done on the truck.
He volunteered to go back down to Toronto for the truck and council thanked him for his support.
Road superintendent Jim Teeple was going to check into any back hauls that may be possible to have the fire truck delivered that way while clerk Doris Dyson was going to check into the cost of flights to Toronto.
Reports also were heard from Greg’s Recycling for March and Rilla Race from Chapple Heritage, who reported on the lighthouse project and the 2004 reunion.
Plans are progressing on both projects, she noted.
In other news, council moved that the Human Resource Policy be approved.
Due to the wording in last year’s tender for the mowing of the village, council recommended the job be tendered. A tender for the mowing will be placed in the newspaper.
Council asked for the tender to be on a per cut basis, and noted the lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted. The properties to be mowed are listed and available form the municipal office.
Teeple reported on road conditions within the township over the past month.
Council also authorized that Doris Dyson and Cheryl Hagen attend the AMCTO annual meeting in Thunder Bay on June 8-11 and that expenses be paid.
Also that Karl VanHeyst and Ken Wilson be authorized to attend an ITT flight service school in Winnipeg on April 25 and that expenses be paid.
Also at the monthly meeting, Chapple council agreed to work with the townships from Rainy River to Fort Frances to form a mutual aid-type agreement for the sharing of resources in the event of emergencies.
And council moved that a letter be written to local MP Robert Nault expressing Chapple’s concerns over the proposed changes to the electoral boundary of the federal riding.
Council also supported the Rainy River Watershed Program as well as its household hazardous waste day—slated for Saturday, May 10—by a contribution of $1.75 per capita.
Two collection depots—one in Fort Frances and the other in Rainy River—will be set up that day. Watch for more information on this in the weeks ahead.
