Chamber hands out business awards

The Academy Awards may have seen Hollywood’s stars come out last night, but district businesses and individuals got their chance to shine in the spotlight here Saturday during the seventh-annual Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
This year’s award winners were:
•Safety Award (individual/employee)—John Reader (Ministry of Natural Resources);
•Safety Award (business/employer)—Riverside Health Care Facilities;
•Training & Adjustment Award—Confederation College;
•Entrepreneur of the Year—Kim Metke (Pharmasave/Clinic Pharmasave);
•Employee of the Year (not-for-profit)—Margaret Sedgwick (Fort Frances Library);
•Employee of the Year (private sector)—Jennifer Galusha (Kathy’s Katering);
•Customer Service Award (individual)—Carol Alton (Clinic Pharmasave);
•Customer Service Award (business)—Warehouse One;
•Business of the Year (1-15 employees)—Northwood’s Gallery & Gifts; and
•Business of the Year (16+ employees)—Manitou Forest Products.
Doug Cain also was given a special award for Volunteer of the Year for his work with the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.
Cain had been nominated for Employee of the Year (not-for-profit), but the Chamber had decided he was not technically an “employee” of the FFCBC but a volunteer.
