CFFO workshop coming to Emo

Two years ago, the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario set itself a goal: to craft a vision—a desirable future—for Ontario agriculture.
Now the CFFO is hosting a series of 17 workshops across Ontario, entitled “Gearing Up for a Better Future: A Vision for Farmers and Farming in Ontario,” to discuss worldwide agricultural trends in order to bring the food and farming sector towards a sustainable future.
One of those workshops will be held next Thursday (Feb. 28) from 9:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo. It will be facilitated by Bob Bedggood, past president of the CFFO.
“The Christian farmers are developing a new vision for agriculture that embraces family farms and not being indebted to large corporate structures,” Bedggood said.
“We want to see if this vision is on target, and if farmers can see possibilities for our kids and grandkids,” he noted.
“We’ve been doing workshops for several years, but have articulated a vision and we want to make sure the agriculture industry agrees,” he added.
Bedggood recently visited Europe as part of the Agricultural Odyssey Group and spent time with government officials and farmers there.
“I’d like to share what I saw when I visited Europe,” he said. “There are some good models for consumers, agriculture, research, and government.
“I invite farmers to come out and work on a vision for agriculture that works for your family and your farm business.”
Cost to attend the workshop is $15, which includes lunch and a copy of the final report.
Registration can be done at the door, or by contacting Peter Boon (274-6005) or Sietske Van Zwol (483-5323).
There are 36 CFFO members in the district.
