The Northwest Catholic District School Board will be looking to approve its audited financial statements for the previous year at tonight’s meeting, which is slated to run via videoconference starting at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Francis School library.
The 2009-10 financial year saw the board end up with a surplus of $1,233,928—a result of a change in accounting policy when it comes to capital funding, as future funding that is expected from the province in relation to long-term debt of $1,079,794 has been recognized as 2010 revenue.
The 2010 budget figures also are less than actual as the effect of the board’s amalgamation with the Atikokan’s Catholic board was not included in the 2009-10 budget.
The board’s financial statements have been audited by independent external auditors, BDO Canada LLP
Also at tonight’s meeting, the board will be establishing its audit committee, as per provincial regulations, and appoint members to this committee.
The board also will be presenting a Recognition of Excellence to the “St. Pat’s Glee Club,” which began in September at the Atikokan school.
Led by teacher Amy LaFroy, the club featured students from Grades 3-8.
There currently are 21 students involved in the club, which has been busy practising and performing various pieces of music.
It has three performances under its belt, and is looking to continue performing on other occasions in the community.
