The ninth-annual “Castin’ for Cash” bass tournament was a great weekend especially for married couple Wayne and Howard, who won the two-day tournament with a final weigh-n of 26.32 lbs.
Congratulations to the Howards and to all 62 teams that competed.
Also, hats off to Bill and Nell Godin for their hospitality and hard work in making the weekend great for all. Everyone is looking forward to 2010.

District 4-H clubs are designing and selling a calendar. All photographers are encouraged to submit photos for the calendar and once completed, the calendar will be sold.
Photos must be of landscapes, action shots or people taken in the district. Picture must be submitted by Aug. 10 to Cindy Nielson at the CIBC Bank in Emo.

There will be a garage sale on Saturday, July 18 from 8 a.m.-noon across from Greensides Store. This is a multi-family event with proceeds going to Guthrie United Church.
There is an abundance of items, tables, chairs, coffee tables, sewing machines, bikes, dishes, books, books and more books.

Kevin Fox, an extremely talented performer, will provide an evening of entertainment Aug. 5 beginning at 7:30 p.m. The show happens at Cornell Farms.
Fox has performed with top-notch performers, some being Tom Cochrane, Celine Dion, and Kathleen Edwards.
Fox’s show also will include a bass player.
Opening for Fox will be Sarah Hebert, a talented local artist.
Ticks can be purchased from the Cornells, the farmers’ market, Greensides, of the Fort Frances Public Library. Ticks are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
Come out and enjoy an evening of top-notch entertainment.

The next 50/50 draw at the Emo Legion will be Aug. 4, so be sure to purchase your ticket from the Legion or on of the sellers. Dan Shine won the June 50/50 draw for $597.50. His mother sold him the winning ticket.

You have likely seen the two busy summer students working hard in our local cemeteries or elsewhere. Ashley Nordstrom and Justin Donaldson were the two successful applicants chosen by our local municipality for the 2009 summer season.

A set of keys were found on the highway turning onto LaVallee Road North. The keys have the remoted starting device and both a Chevy and a GM key are on the chain. Contact the municipal office at 486-3452 if you think they belong to you.

Congratulations to Kayla Caul and Reynald (Ray) Chartier. They were wed Saturday, July 11. Your community wishes you a long, happy marriage.
Ray and Kayla have recently moved back to Devlin. Kayla is employed at Rainycrest, and Ray at Badiuk Equipment.

Once again, our community is feeling a great loss. Gale Donaldson passed away last week and that will be greatly felt by his wife (Liz), his seven sons and daughters and their families.
Gale had a kind, compassionate personality and I remember many a pleasant conversation at community events. He always had time to share his abundance of knowledge and history with you. The one thing I realized early about Gale was to never, never say he was from Devlin. He would correct you that he resided in Burriss, and he was proud of it.
Also a fact Gale took great pride in was that his “home place” as a century home, meaning Donaldsons had lived on the Burriss farm for over 100 years.
Our community sends the many family members and friends of Gale’s sincere sympathy and caring thoughts at this sad time.
