‘Castin’ for Cash’ still has openings

The annual “Castin’ for Cash” finishing tournament, hosted by Lake Despair Lodge, is set to go July 8-9 this year.
Some 58 teams already have registered for the tournament, which can take up to 65.
Along with the excitement of the 4 p.m. weigh-ins both days, there also will be food booths to enjoy.
Live music by local talent will perform on the Saturday evening.

Luminaries to support the annual “Relay for Life” in Fort Frances are available at Greensides Store for $5 each.
This year’s “Relay for Life” takes place June 24-25 at Fort Frances High School.

Tylyn Silander, a Grade 12 student at Fort Frances High School, will be flying off to Peru this summer to work for the World Vision organization.
A spaghetti supper to aid with the financial cost of this endeavour will be held July 13 at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Fort Frances (824 Victoria Ave.)
As well, a garage sale is taking place there on June 25 from 8-11 a.m.
Tylyn is the daughter of Gary and Andrea Silander, and the granddaughter of Jack and Carol Booth and Barry and Grace Silander.

Kim and Pat Cornell travelled to El Paso, Tex. for four days earlier this month to attend the wedding of Karilu, who stayed with the family as an exchange student eight years ago.
The Cornells toured the agricultural area and met many people.
They enjoyed their trip and helped make Karilu’s wedding very memorable.

Diane McCoy and Betty Herman will travel to Toronto this week to be on hand as Joel (Diane’s son and Betty’s grandson) is called to the bar and will start his career as a licensed lawyer.

It is with great pride that I, along with Carley’s dad and family and friends, attended her graduation last week in Kenora.
Graduating with her RPN (registered practical nursing) diploma, Carley is employed at Lake of the Woods General Hospital in Kenora as well as at Pinecrest Home for the Aged there.

Congratulations to Sean and Emily Ahrens on the birth of their twin boys, Ryan and Riley, on June 4 in Duluth, Mn.
Both boys are still in I.C.U. but are doing well.
They are brothers for Elly and Laura, with the proud grandparents being Mervin and Lynda Ahrens of Fort Frances and Trish and Pete Lilliberg of Duluth.
