‘Castin for Cash’ set to go this weekend

The eighth-annual “Castin’ for Cash” bass tournament is set to go this weekend (July 11-12) at Lake Despair Lodge.
Bill and Nell Godin say “things are looking great.” There are 65 teams competing for the cash prizes. Teams this year are from Winnipeg, Kenora, Thunder Bay and even Indiana.
The boats begin hitting the water at 7:30 a.m. each morning (Fri. & Sat.) and weigh-ins begin at 3:30 p.m.
Along with the excitement of the weigh-ins, there will be beer gardens, taped music both Friday and Saturday evening (music by Warren Anderson), and food booths.
There will be a pancake breakfast Friday morning and a fish fry supper Friday evening. Food will be available at the food booths all day long.
Cloverleaf (one of the major sponsors) will donate free coffee/donuts both mornings at the landing for everyone.
Food will also be available Thursday evening during the “rules meeting.”
Mark Allan will be the M.C. this year.
All in all it promises to be a great weekend–come out and cheer your favourite team and have some fun.

Congratulations to Alysia McTavish and Derek Jones who were engaged June 21. The couple are planning a June 20, 2009 wedding.

The second-annual Kingsley Downs–Gus Lindberg slo-pitch tournament takes place July 14-20. The first game will be played Monday, July 14, at the Devlin Ball Diamond, at 6:30 p.m. Games will follow every evening up to Friday. Then on Saturday and Sunday slo-pitch games begin at 7 a.m. and will be played through the day.
Come out and enjoy some ball games, enjoy the beer gardens and canteen.

Four TOPS members travelled to Baudette, MN. on Saturday, July 5, to participate in the annual Firecracker 5 k run. Freeda Carmody, Neila Booth, Becky Chabot, Beth Brow and myself.
Bringing home medals in their age division were Freeda Carmody-1st place (60+ years), Neila Booth-2nd place (50+).
Also joining us was Jamie Booth (Neila’s son). Jamie came home with a first place medal in the 20-29 category.

Welcome new residents Christal Hollis and Joel Ladauceur and their infant son, Nathan. The couple recently purchased the home of Sonya Stewart. The couple relocated from Ottawa. Joel is employed by the MNR and Sonya is working at Community Living.
The couple will wed Aug. 1 in Ottawa.

The winner of the June gas draw at DevLynn’s was Murray Witherspoon. He won a sleeping bag.
