The 11th-annual “Castin’ For Cash” bass tournament at Lake Despair Lodge over the weekend was another success!
Some 57 teams competed in the two-day event and when the final teams weighed in, the top duo was Jeff Gustafson and August Collinson from Kenora.
This couple also won the tournament three years ago.
Nathan Brigham and Matt Meyers, an Emo team, came second in a tie-breaker, with Ralph and Scott Galusha settling for third.
The oldest angler in the tournament was Almer Godin (Bill’s dad) at 82. The youngest was Chase Curtis, who was fishing with his dad, Cory.
Way to go, Bill and Nell, plus all your volunteers, for another great “Castin’ For Cash” tournament!

Our community, and Rainy River District, once again is struck with the extreme loss of a young man.
Tyler Romyn passed away Friday after a battle with cancer.
It’s at times like this that people wish they had words or could do something to take away the pain of Tyler’s parents, brothers, and other family members, as well as his large circle of friends.
Hopefully, Tyler’s family and friends gain strength in knowing that many, many friends have them in their thoughts and prayers at this sad time.

A reminder the annual Gus Lindberg and Kingsley Downs slo-pitch tournament, featuring 12 teams in action, takes place this weekend (July 15-17) at the Devlin Ball Park.
As always, beer gardens and food booths will be available for players and spectators.
Come out and enjoy some exciting baseball, as well as mix-and-mingle.

A bridal shower was held for Hannah Firth on Monday (July 11).
Many of Hannah’s co-workers attended, as well as friends who are unable to make her wedding.
Hannah and Dan Oster will wed Aug. 6.

An outdoors ceremony was enjoyed by many family members and friends.
Lacey is the daughter of Jim and Linda Gill while Luke is the son of Ed Carlson and Susan.

Jill Vitello and Mark Vennechenko were honoured with a wedding social on Friday night (July 8) at the Emo Legion.
The couple will wed later this year.
Mark is the son of Toby and Colleen Vennechenko.
