Kenora
Incumbent Mayor Andrew Poirier is the only candidate who filed for mayor of Kenora in this year’s election.
Poirier has been mayor since 2022, and before that served a total of 10 years as a councillor. He’s now set to be acclaimed.
Thirteen candidates have filed to run for the six councillor-at-large positions: Cecile Marcino, Daniel Reynard, Bryan Booth, Richard Kurtz, Ronald Malashewski, Robert Bernie, Roderick McKay, Morton Goss, Christopher Jones, Karla Treadway, Tyler Johnson, Cristopher McCaffrey and Michael O’Flaherty.
There are three spots for trustees at the Keewatin Patricia District School Board, but only one candidate, Dave Cornish.
Five are to be elected for the Kenora Catholic District School Board trustee, and there are exactly five candidates set to be acclaimed: Teresa Gallik, Marie Lundin, Paul Landry, Derek Favreau and Irene Richards.
No one has filed to run for the French public and Catholic boards.
Pickle Lake
Mayor James Dalzell of Pickle Lake is up against another former mayor, Roy Hoffman, in this year’s election.
There are four seats on council to fill, and running for those are candidates Graeme Mackechnie, Deborah Chartrand, John Millar, Leslie Moore and Kayla Blakney.
Ear Falls
In Ear Falls, Kevin Kahoot is set to be acclaimed to return to the mayor’s seat, as no other candidates were listed as having filed. There are four councillor seats and five candidates in Kim Thain, Shuana Thain, Douglas Woolsey, Daniel Sutton and David Hoey.
Machin
Mayor Gord Griffiths of Machin has an opponent in Bonnie Leutschaft. Vying for the four seats on council are Paul Kelly, Dennis Peterson, Greg Swanson, Lance Delorne, Bobby Elliot and Gary Parks.
Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls
Finally, Mayor Gale Black remained the only candidate for mayor in Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls.
There are three candidates for the two councillor-at-large positions there with Steve Salvador, Mike Gate and Doug Brothwell.
Matt Ryberg is the sole candidate for the single Ward 1 Sioux Narrows councillor position, and for the single Ward 2 Nestor Falls councillor position, two candidates, Holly Chant and Wayne Helliar, have filed.
