Since yesterday, some residents within the North Western Health Unit’s catchment area received texts and emails that their appointments got cancelled.
Despite appointment cancelling concerns, the NWHU is still administering COVID-19 vaccines to those who had their appointments booked.
Lee Pitt, IT manager at the NWHU, said yesterday afternoon they started hearing that residents are getting texts notifying them of their appointments getting cancelled.
Pitt said they were not aware of this because it was province-initiated glitch where it was double booking some of the appointment slots.
“[The system] was double booking the first appointment slots of the of the of the day,” Pitt said. “So if we had six appointment slots, we had 12 people in those in those slots.”
Pitt said the NWHU will call all residents who had their appointments booked to confirm attendance with them and clear out any misunderstanding.
“We had no intention of cancelling these appointments,” Pitt said. “We were fine doing the double booking. We are reaching out to every single person. And they’ll either come tomorrow or or we’ll have them come Saturday.”
The health unit, Pitt said, is in a very good shape, in terms of vaccination doses and vaccination times, to accommodate all residents who had an appointment booked.
