Canadian Forces thank Legion ladies

The Legion Ladies Auxiliary Br. #29 held its general meeting Jan. 10 with 30 members attending.
The meeting was chaired by president Silvia Gunderson, with Rebecca Bliss acting as secretary whilst Diane Taggart is away.
The regular business of the auxiliary was conducted and reports were given by executive officers.
Carolyn Abbott won the attendance draw, Marie McDiarmid was the lucky birthday draw winner, and June Woods won the December early bird draw.
As in past years, various motions pertaining to how the auxiliary will conduct its business over the next year were passed.
Unfortunately, due to the closure of the Fort Frances Bingo Hall, the auxiliary’s funds will be severely limited until ways are found to replace the monthly income we received from the bingos.
With this in mind, the auxiliary has decided to limit donations usually given to out-of-town requests.
Meanwhile, ideas on how to make up the loss of these funds are most welcome. Please contact the auxiliary president if you have any suggestions.
Amongst the correspondence received was a letter from Cpl. E. Arsenault of Task Force 3-06 Battle Group in Belleville, Ont. thanking the auxiliary for the Christmas parcels we sent to Afghanistan.
Cpl. Arsenault expressed deep appreciation on behalf of all Forces personnel and reiterated that receiving parcels and cards from home makes it a bit easier serving in such a dangerous country.
If anyone is interested, copies of the entire letter can be obtained from the auxiliary. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project.
Members are reminded our annual meeting is coming up fast, which this year will be hosted by the Atikokan auxiliary. If you wish to go, let Alfreda know as soon as possible.
We still require someone to serve as Sgt. At Arms, as well as ways and means and funeral conveners. If you are interested, contact President Silvia.
Please note this month’s auxiliary supper, which will feature cutlets, will be held Friday, Feb. 16 at the Legion Hall.
The next general meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Legion Hall.
If you are interested in joining the auxiliary, contact Evie Gosselin. Remember that membership is open to any woman (it no longer is limited to relatives of veterans).
