Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell has thrown her support behind her federal colleagues, John Rafferty (Thunder Bay-Rainy River) and Bruce Hyer (Thunder Bay-Superior North), over their vote on the long gun registry.
“Both John and Bruce have respected the wishes of their constituents, which is the primary job of each elected official,” Campbell said.
“I commend them showing such strong leadership in taking this position.
“I consider both John and Bruce good friends, and I know they have nothing but the utmost respect for their constituents, as shown by their actions,” she added.
Campbell said she is concerned and disappointed with the position taken by interim federal NDP leader Nicole Turmel.
“Unfortunately, Ms. Turmel has shown a lack of good judgement in her decision to impose sanctions on Mr. Hyer and Mr. Rafferty [for voting against party lines],” she remarked.
“I look forward to the selection of a new leader of the New Democratic Party next month, when hopefully we can put these regrettable sanctions behind us,” she added.
