The 10-day Music Camp held at the Emo Legion was deemed a huge success.
It was operated by local musician Renee Martin, assisted by Chantelle Spuzak, owner/operator of Dancemakers & Beauty Essentials in Fort Frances, and drama and music teacher Erin Bree Pierce.
Some 22 students registered for the 10 days of camp, hailing from Fort Frances, Rainy River, Baudette, Mn., and everywhere in between.
It was a fun two weeks in which students learned the arts of dancing, singing, and drama.
The final concert held last Thursday afternoon at the Emo Legion combined the artistry of dancing and singing into a festival of active participation.
Students did not miss a beat, freely moving about at ease. The audience of parents and friends obviously was impressed with how quickly the young performers adapted to the various movements.
Martin welcomed everyone to the Cabaret and anounced the program agenda. First came the Hip Hop dance executed with style, then “New York, New York” featuring Katelyn Shortreed.
There was a clown act with Jenaya VanHeyst, Shelby Smith, Pheobe-Ann Firth, and the chorus, followed by the Jazz dance. “Someone Like You” featured Elisa Lucke and Martin herself.
“What I Did for Love” exquisitely featured Melissa Friesen and Heather Williams. The grand finale—“One” from “A Chorus Line”—featured students dancing in top hats.
