A fire in Quetico Provincial Park was among the six new blazes reported yesterday across the region.
Fort Frances Fire #6, located at Jesse Lake last was reported as “under control” at one hectare in size.
Nine new fires were reported Sunday, including one in Kenora District that required air attack support.
Meanwhile, two area highways remain closed due to forest fires.
Heavy smoke from the fires yesterday forced the closure of sections of Highway 11 between Longlac and Hearst, as well as Highway 584 between Geraldton and Nakina.
Highway 17 between Marathon and White River also was closed but has since re-opened.
A reminder that a Restricted Fire Zone remains in effect across Northwestern Ontario.
Charges and fines have been laid against those contravening the fire ban, and reports continue to come in of people setting campfires and large bonfires.
In related news, 85 personnel returned from Alberta on Sunday, including FireRangers, an Incident Management Team, agency representatives, division supervisors, and strike team leaders.
They will take some days off for rest and then return to work here in Ontario.
Remaining in Alberta are 85 personnel who deployed there last week.
Ontario is keeping adequate resources to continue fighting fires in this province while also supporting Alberta.
