‘Buckets of Love’ starting

Press Release

The staff and students at St. Francis School here would like to introduce their Lenten campaign for 2011 to the community.
The school will be supporting a “Free the Children” initiative called “Adopt a Village, Change the World.”
All the money raised will go to help a village in Haiti so they can enjoy fresh, clean water.
Contaminated drinking water is one of the major causes of health problems for people in developing countries, and the leading cause of death in children.
The St. Francis Student Spirit Leaders have chosen “Buckets of Love” as the title for their campaign.
The project will be supporting the construction of wells, clean water, and sanitation systems in Haiti.
Every Tuesday morning in March, Student Spirit Leaders will be coming to each classroom to collect donations. In the spirit of Lenten fasting, the students are encouraged to donate money they otherwise would have spent on themselves.
Each time they donate, their name will go on a water drop made of paper. Each loonie (or coin donation) will entitle them to one drop of water.
Each team will have a poster in the hall so team members can see how quickly their bucket is filling up.
“This friendly competition is an opportunity for students to promote justice in our world,” noted St. Francis principal Teresa Dennis.
“At St. Francis School, we are encouraging our youth to be leaders of positive change,” she added.
Community donations also will be gratefully accepted on March 8, March 22, March 29, April 5, April 12, and April 19.
