Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Ken Boshcoff today was named official opposition critic for FedNor by Liberal leader Stephane Dion.
“The Conservative government fails to understand that FedNor is a vital tool for economic development in Northern and rural Ontario,” Boshcoff said in a release issued late this morning.
“Since taking office, they have cut $6.4 million from the program budget and funding announcements have slowed to a mere trickle.”
Boshcoff added he’s very pleased that Dion has chosen him for this important task, adding the Harper government must be “held to account as this program is too important to be ignored.”
Boshcoff, first elected to the House of Commons in June, 2004, has served as chair of the Subcommittee on the Status of Persons with Disabilities, as chair of the national Liberal rural caucus, and as a member of the national Liberal executive.
After being re-elected last January, Boshcoff wasa named associate critic for natural resources.
In addition to his new role as FedNor critic, Boshcoff will continue to serve as chair of the national Liberal rural caucus and as a member of the national Liberal executive.
He also is a member of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Foods.
