Boil-water advisory lifted in Atikokan

Atikokan residents can now safely drink their water again after the Northwestern Helath Unit lifted the boil-water advisory there this morning.
The water had been declared “unsafe” Friday after a sample taken last Wednesday showed unacceptable levels of the E. coli bacteria, Bill Limerick, environmental health team leader with the health unit, said this morning.
But samples taken Friday and Saturday both came back “clear,” allowing the health unit to lift its boil-water advisory.
While the Atikokan water treatment plant samples the water on a weekly basis, if just one out of seven samples contains unacceptable levels of bacteria, the health unit must intervene and declare an advisory.
