From the OPP
On Monday, Oct. 15 around 8:45 p.m., members of the Kenora OPP responded to a report of three males missing on Lake of the Woods near Manitou Island.
Police learned that the vessel capsized and the males had not resurfaced.
Two of the males were located on Tuesday, Oct. 16 while the third male was found on Thursday, Oct. 18.
The victims were identified as John Copenace, 50, Bluebird Major, 19, and Marshall Morrison, 42, all of Big Grassy First Nation.
The males were located with assistance from members of the Kenora OPP and Rainy River OPP, as well as the Marine and Trails Unit, Emergency Response Team, and Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.
By law, every boat in Ontario must carry a life jacket or personal flotation device for each person on board, which should be readily available in an emergency.
The OPP is encouraging boaters to wear their life jackets as the weather can turn in a matter of minutes.
