Board awards travel scholarships

Press Release

The Rainy River District School Board is pleased to announce that two students were successful in earning the board’s Student Travel Scholarship.
Samantha Ribey, a Grade 11 student at Atikokan High School, and Shallin Scott-MacNeil, a Grade 10 student at Fort Frances High School, each will receive $1,000 to help offset the cost of attending a “Me to We” youth volunteer trip this summer.
The Student Travel Scholarship is designed to give up to three secondary students the opportunity to travel to a developing country to learn first-hand about the importance of education, clean water, alternative income, and agricultural projects.
Full-time students in Grades 9-11 at either Fort Frances High School, Atikokan High School, or Rainy River High School/S.C.A.P. were eligible to apply for the scholarship, which has been offered by the board since 2014.
Applicants were required to demonstrate their involvement and commitment to their school and/or community, as well as commit to sharing their experience with the school and greater community.
