Press Release
The start of the school year in Sept. 2009 will bring new principals and vice-principals to some schools in the Rainy River District School Board.
Several of the changes are designed to promote better educational outcomes by encouraging greater coordination among elementary and secondary grade levels. The moves mirror the Ministry of Education’s new alignment initiative for student achievement across Grades K-12. Closer alignment across the system can help students prepare for and negotiate difficult transitions, such as entering high school from Grade 8.
Vice-principal of Fort Frances High School, Al McManaman, is appointed to the position of principal of the school.
Peg Keffer is currently acting principal of Donald Young and Nestor Falls schools and will serve as vice-principal at Fort Frances High School.
Her leadership and instructional experience at the elementary level make her an excellent fit, in collaboration with the Fort Frances High School administration team, to enhance student achievement.
Ian Simpson and Dan Bird will remain in their vice-principal positions at the school in support of McManaman.
Principal of Fort Frances High School, Gord McCabe is appointed to the position of principal at Crossroads School.
His expertise as a leader at the high school level will be an asset to the success of all students, and will be valuable in preparing them for secondary level education and experiences.
Crossroads’ acting principal, Donna Kowalski, will return to her position as vice-principal at Crossroads School and will continue to provide excellent opportunities for students in support of McCabe.
Vice-principal of Donald Young and Nestor Falls schools, Jennifer Baker, will be vice-principal of J.W. Walker School and working with principal Bill Daley.
Vice-principal of Robert Moore School, Leslie Barr Kellar, is appointed to the position of principal of Mine Centre School.
She replaces Brenda Ferris-Hyatt, the retiring principal of the school. A special “thank you” is extended to Ferris-Hyatt for the years of service that she has given to the staff, students, and school community.
Sylvia Parker will remain in her role as the board’s “Effective School Leader,” and the leadership position at North Star Community School will change from acting principal to principal of North Star Community School for Jody Labossiere.
